Prints From The Darkroom : Art For A Cause
I enjoy photographing all animals and witnessing how herds relate and protect each other. Some animals are curious and engaging, while others are coy and reserved. One thing I know from my experience of witnessing herds of various animals is that their loyalty is immeasurable. As I sat and took this picture, the farm ram staring at me in the image never took his eye off me, not once, but not for one minute. He was probably the patriarch, protector and the dominant animal of the flock. As with many photo shoots, you want to take your time and take as many photos as necessary that you feel will capture the moment. I guess I was taking way too long and obviously tested the ram’s patience. He appeared annoyed and had enough of my presence. He stomped his hoof violently as if he was demanding that I stop taking pictures. Knowing that farm rams can be aggressive, I obeyed his command and moved on.
Note: All images have been vetted and critiqued by virtue of group discussions with my teacher, professional photographer Amy Blakemore and advanced students, many of whom are professional photographers that attend the Glassell School of Art in Houston, Texas. Photos are evaluated based on light and shadows, contrast, composition, patterns and shapes, texture, movement, print quality and expression. Please allow 3 to 5 days for darkroom processing.
