Ha Long Bay is an ecosystem with temperate water suitable for many species of marine animals. The bay has been inhabited by three successive cultures between 3,000 and 18,000 years ago. Scientist have discovered and estimated that there are more than 1000 species of plants in the surrounding forests and on the islands, over 1150 species
Halong belongs to Quang Ninh province, bordered on the south and southeast by the Gulf of Tonkin, on the north by China, and on the west and southwest by Cat Ba Island. The total area is approximately 1,553 km2 with nearly 2,000 islets.
